Parish of Billingham St. Luke

Worship Pattern Explained

The first Sunday ‘Together @ Ten’ service is known as a ‘service of the word’ as it does not include the sharing of Holy Communion. This is a shorter service and is designed to be lively and informal. Instruments such as shakers and tambourines are often available for the children (and adults!) to join in during the worship if they wish. Don't worry if the children make a noise - we don't!  You can always take them into the meeting room if you really need to.

During school term-time the pattern is as per the previous page. The Sunday school children join the main worship at the Peace, before the Holy Communion. However, during the main school holidays at Christmas, Easter and in the summer the services of Holy Communion become ‘Family Communion’ services with the children present for the whole of the service. This is to give the Sunday school teachers and helpers a well-earned break!

The third Sunday of each month at 10.00am there is normally a Communion by Extension. This is when the elements of bread and wine are consecrated at the earlier 8.00am service and then distributed (after special prayers) at the later service. This happens because the vicar is normally ministering at another church at 10.00am on the third Sunday.
