St. John’s Church, Nyakaina

Following Tim Parker's mission trip to Uganda in June of 2007, St.
Luke's now has a link church.

St. John's Church, Nyakaina

St. John's is located in the Diocese of North Kigezi in the Rukungiri District of S.W. Uganda. The new vicar of St. John’s is Rev. Canon Geoffrey Kakooko who is married to Eunice. They have six children. They moved to the parish in the autumn. Geoffrey longs to see the church grow and recently they have held two missions seeing 29 people come to know the Lord or recommit their lives to him. Geoffrey also has responsibility for two other churches in nearby villages.

St. John’s has about 200 regular worshippers. The large church building, located in a field, was in urgent need of a new roof as it leaked during the heavy rains typical of an equatorial climate. St. Luke's congregation supplied a gift of 2.5 million Ugandan Shillings (£790) at a meal held to formalise the link in St. John's vicarage. We have sent further gifts of approximately £1,000 since then.

Please pray for Geoffrey and Eunice as they seek to extend the work of the Kingdom of God. They are preparing a confirmation class. There is a tree planting project being devised, a Youth Conference in December, and plans to renovate the pastor’s residence.
