Midweek Home Groups
St. Luke’s is committed to helping all Christians deepen their spiritual lives through study and prayer. As with thousands of other churches we hold midweek groups in people’s homes to help us with this. We call our four house groups Emmaus groups.
The Emmaus road is one of the incidents immediately following the resurrection of Jesus. Two disciples walked from Jerusalem to Emmaus, their home village, that first Easter Day. A man accompanied them on the journey and opened the scriptures to them. When they invited him in he broke bread in the home, their eyes were opened and they recognised that it was in fact Jesus! Emmaus is basically ‘an accompanied journey of faith’ which recognises that every believer in Jesus has ‘L’ plates on! Those two disciples’ lives were changed forever … and our Emmaus groups are designed to provide an opportunity for worship, prayer, study, fellowship and service at a deeper level than can be experienced by only worshipping on a Sunday morning.
The Emmaus groups are open to everyone, though it probably best to take part in an Alpha course first. We run the Alpha course at St. Luke’s on a fairly regular basis. It is an excellent Christian basics course used in thousands of churches across the UK and around the world.
