Church Lads’ & Church Girls’ Brigade
This is a national organisation of the church of England. As with many uniformed organisations it has become less formal. The age range is from 5-years up to teenagers. During school term-time they meet in the church on a Monday evening starting at 5.30pm and finishing at around 7.00pm. They play many different games and always close with prayers. To give you a flavour of what the children have also recently here is a summary from Joyce Bunn, the Brigade leader:
‘We have about 12 regular attendees and they are very regular. Instead of going to the Regimental Carol Service we had our own Christingle, the significance of which was explained to the children. In Whit Week we all went to visit the Forbidden Corner. Everyone enjoyed the day though we had difficulty finding all the clues. The weather hadn’t looked very promising but it managed to stay dry, and we enjoyed a picnic in the open air and not on the minibus as expected! We went to Auckland Castle in June and shared a very enjoyable service with Bishop Tom. Big thanks once again to all our loyal helpers without whose help we would not be able to continue.’
